Kids of the Baby Boom

I heard this song today, and although I do not use the term 'kids' in the place of the word 'children' any more, I thought it fit in the case of this song.

I was brought up at the tail end of the 'baby boomers', and when I look back on it now, we were some of the most spoiled, ruinous, and rebelious people ever to trapse the face of this planet. We in turn, spawned a new generation of selfish, and ignorant (to God, and to His reason for creating us) people, to the point that I must wonder at the long suffering of the Creator God. I'd have squished us all like bugs waaaaay before now.

I am, however, grateful that my children, and their children show much less signs of this depravity then most 'children'. None the less, they are corrupted from my past, and the upbringing I gave them. Therefore, I am responsible, regardless of my current eye-opening revelation from God. I pray they will overcome this bad influence of mine, and I pray God forgive me, and them, sprinkling His over-abundant longsuffering liberally.

Anyway, these are the words to the song I heard, and I must admit, we were 'kids' in the biblical sense. The words ultimately end up in a very strong truth that is playing out on the world stage even as I type.

Bellamy Brothers
Kids Of the Baby Boom

Our daddys won the war and came home to our moms
They gave them so much love that all us kids were born
We all grew up on Mickey Mouse and hula-hoops
Then we all bought BMW's and brand new pickup trucks
And we watched John Kennedy die one afternoon
Kids of the baby boom

It was a time of new prosperity in the USA
All the fortunate offsprings never had to pay
We had sympathy for the devil and the Rolling Stones
Then we got a little older, we found Haggard and Jones
A generation screaming for more room
Kids of the baby boom

Kids of the baby boom, we had freedom, we had money
Baby boom, here in the land of milk and honey
Counting our chickens way too soon
Kids of the baby boom

Now we all can run computers and we all can dance
We all have Calvin Klein written on our underpants
And at six-o'clock, like robots, we turn on the news
Watch those third world countries deal out more abuse
Remember the first man on the moon
Kids of the baby boom

Kids of the baby boom, we had freedom, we had money
Baby boom, here in the land of milk and honey
Counting our chickens way too soon
Kids of the baby boom

As our lives become a capsule they send to the stars
And our children look at us like we came from Mars
As the farms disappear and the sky turns black
We're a nation full of takers, never giving back
We never stop to think what we consume
Kids of the baby boom

Kids of the baby boom, we had freedom, we had money
Baby boom, here in the land of milk and honey
Counting our chickens way too soon
Kids of the baby boom

Our optimism mingles with the doom
Kids of the baby boom

Thank you Lord for waking me up, so that I might enjoy watching these times as they pass, not with a feeling of doom, but with praise and joy at your righteous judgement of the wicked, and the wicked system which sought to replace Christ, unto whom be praise and dominion for ever, and ever. Amen.

Hey Renee, I can so relate to this post. We must be close to the same age! I think of my sons whom I have I believe confused them greatly. Not just because of my colonized mind(which the lord is working on) but as well the whole church thing. They went with me from church to church which wasn't really very many over the years but enough that now they think I am totally wacky. Now they don't know what to believe. I have shared what I have learned of late but this only brings anger and hurt, of which I am responsible for as well. I pray as well for the Lord to reveal the truth to them as only He can. We surely are responsible for the mess we have made! Surely God's mercy will make up for my lack of wisdom! Again as I always say Praise God He is in Control!

I was born in 1953.

Thank you for your comment.

I too drug my children to a camp at the Way International. I didn't find out until years later that while they were there they gave my younger son some water that had bleach in it. The bleach had been placed in the container to clean it, and the person who gave the water to the children did not know it was not good water. My son, being extra thirsty, drank much more than the other children, becoming ill. They never told me, and he didn't tell me until much later. That alone left a very bad impression on him.

As you say, however, God is in control. So now all that can be done is to pray He continue to be merciful.

Thanks again for sharing your own experience.
